This patient is a 55-year-old gentleman who is a Norwood Class 6/7 who desired to have some hair to help frame his face and restore some of his youthfulness. His hair was very thin, and the donor area had a limited amount of hair. We had extensive discussions with the patient on the expected outcomes. We had discussed at least one, if not 2 mega session transplants, to help accomplish his goals. Because of the donor density, and the hair characteristics, we knew that the final outcome would be a thin appearance.
The patient is now 8 months following his second transplant with a total of 5,074 grafts at our Portland hair restoration center and the outcome is far better then we anticipated: the hair covers his scalp completely, and it frames his face in a very natural appearance. He is absolutely happy with his results, and he understands that he still has at least 1 year of growth before the final outcome, which typically takes 2 years to accomplish with a hair transplant procedure.
In an email describing his 8-month result, the patient wrote to me in an email: “I couldn’t be more pleased with how things have gone. I know it sounds cliche but you have indeed changed my life! I appreciate too that you managed my expectations in the beginning.
