At The Gabel Center, Dr. Steven Gabel maintains a practice that is dedicated exclusively to the hair restoration needs of every facet of men and women’s aesthetic well being.
Facial hair is a common area of concern for male patients, who desire a more robust or full facial hair appearance due to the absence of hair via personal genetics or because of hair loss sustained from facial injuries, botched treatments, or burns.
Facial hair transplantation is a procedure which restores hair to areas where facial hair growth has become thin or is missing. A proper transplantation can restore the appearance of a goatee, a mustache, sideburns, or even complete the fullness of a beard. This delicate process can also implant hair in portions of the face that had no prior facial hair growth. Facial hair transplants can also be used to conceal acne scars and other facial blemishes or scarring.
In special cases, Transgender female to male patients (FTM) may benefit from this procedure as part of their surgical transition.
The number of grafts required varies by each patient, and a full examination by Dr. Gabel prior to surgery will determine the amount of hair grafts needed to fulfill the restoration needs of every individual. The donor grafts for a facial hair transplant will commonly come from the back or sides of the scalp, and are typically extracted by Dr. Gabel via the FUE technique. The donor hair available from the scalp grow and resemble the texture of facial hair more closely than body hair, and can be styled and shaved with similarities to existing facial hair.
Facial hair transplantation is usually performed under local anesthesia with an oral sedative. Surgery is normally completed in three to eight hours, and patients usually experience little downtime in the immediate aftermath of the procedure. Dr. Gabel will always provide in-depth post operative instructions to every patient so that they can care for their newly transplanted facial grafts as the body heals and begins to allow the hair to grow in its new location on the body.
