Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors are among a select number of doctors who are chosen through a rigorous research process to be listed in Castle Connolly’s unique database of physicians. Castle Connolly has been naming Top Doctors for over 25 years to help patients choose the most qualified board-certified physicians across the United States. This helps patients feel confident in their doctors and recognizes the Top Doctors’ hard work and expertise. Doctors cannot pay to be listed among Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors; they must be selected based on their merit.
How Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors Are Chosen
Castle Connolly Top Doctors are awarded based on a thorough, unbiased, and rigorous research process. This process begins with a survey of physicians and healthcare leaders throughout the country. Through these surveys, physicians and professionals nominate one another based on factors including excellence in clinical care, superior interpersonal skills, instilling trust in patients, and more. Any licensed physician (MD or DO) may nominate another for Top Doctor recognition.
After collecting these surveys, Castle Connolly contacts leading specialists, clinical department chairs, and other leaders in medicine to learn more about the nominated doctors and further screen their credentials. Finally, all gathered materials and credentials on nominated doctors are reviewed by the Castle Connolly team before winning Top Doctors are announced.
Meet Dr. Gabel
Dr. Steven Gabel specializes in hair restoration including Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT or linear strip donor harvest method) in Portland, Oregon. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgeons as well as a board-certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgeon. Dr. Gabel is the founder and medical director of the Gabel Hair Restoration Center, which is the premier center for state-of-the-art hair restoration in the Northwest since 2001. Dr. Gabel was an early adopter of the FUE donor harvest technique, performing his first FUE donor harvest procedure in 2004 when the procedure was still in its infancy. He is well-regarded by patients and peers for the natural results he creates through both FUE and FUT.
In addition to receiving the Castle Connolly Top Doctor award for a fourth consecutive year, Dr. Gabel is a member of the Board of Directors for the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. He was recently elected to the position of Secretary of the Board of Directors and is slated to be the President of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery in 3 years. He is also a co-director of the Advanced Course on Hair Restoration for the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons. He has been selected as a member of the prestigious Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians since 2008. In 2017, he was awarded the James E. Arnold, MD Award for receiving the highest score on the written examination for hair restoration surgeons for the certifying examination.
