Follicular unit excision (FUE)
Follicular unit excision (FUE) is gaining popularity for a variety of reasons. In most consultations with patients desiring a hair transplant at our Portland Hair Restoration Center, Dr. Gabel discusses the virtues and pros and cons of FUE. There is a misconception that FUE is scarless surgery – this is absolutely false. FUE, while less noticeable than traditional strip surgery, leaves small 1-mm scars where the extractions were performed. If one shaves their head, they will see the small scars.
FUE is an excellent method of hair transplant for those people who want to keep their hair short with less chance of noticing the scar, those patients who are nervous about a linear incision, or those who have had previous surgery and are unable to have another strip procedure. Dr. Gabel is able to extract hair from the chest of those patients with good-quality chest hair.
