ISHRS begins campaign to stop illegal transplants clinics

Posted on January 17, 2020

The ISHRS marks its 27th year as an organization by showcasing the dangers of having a surgical hair transplant performed by illegal, unlicensed practices or untrained personnel. This campaign is known as the “Fight the Fight” campaign against fraudulent clinics performing illicit surgeries.

Dr. Gabel also took the pledge, promising to continue to uphold the principles set forth by the ISHRS.

Many patients come to see Dr. Gabel seeking help with corrective surgery, after having an unfortunate experience at unlicensed and black-market clinics. Patients around the world are suffering from the illegal actions of these clinics, including severe injuries and scarring, over-harvested donor areas, or irreparable aesthetic results.

The ISHRS believes the following aspects of hair restoration surgery should only be performed by a licensed physician:

  • Preoperative diagnostic evaluation and consultation
  • Surgery planning
  • Surgery execution including:
  • Donor hair harvesting
  • Hairline design
  • Recipient site creation
  • Management of other patients’ medical issues and possible adverse reactions
  • Post-operative care
